About the Position

SARAO has an exciting opportunity for a Science Educator to join our Carnarvon based team on a three (3) year contract basis. The successful incumbent will be responsible for Physical Science to Grade 8 to 12 learners at Carnarvon High School.

 

Minimum education requirement:

  • BSc degree plus PGCE qualification or appropriate Teaching qualification

Minimum work experience required:

  • 4 years’ experience teaching Physical Science at high school level

Duties include (but not limited to):

  • Planning and teaching Physical Science lessons to Grade 8 to Grade 12 learners
  • Managing the science laboratory at the school and ensuring it is adequately resourced at all times
  • Ensuring learner participation in extracurricular STEM activities, including Science Expos, Olympiads and Competitions
  • Organising the annual Carnarvon High School STEM careers expo

The ideal candidate will have the following competencies:

Ability to:

  • incorporate ICT in teaching
  • develop lesson plans
  • motivate learners in the classroom
  • assess learner performance
  • assist learners with science related projects
  • conduct exam preparations especially for Grade 12 learners
  • conduct Physics and Chemistry experiments
  • display good record keeping and reporting skills
  • conduct lessons in fluent Afrikaans

Experience in:

  • supervising learners with science related projects
  • learner participation in expos and competitions

Knowledge of:

  • STEM careers path
  • CAPS curriculum
